From matter to spirit, Christian Stl's painting translates shape into substance, condensing what he depicts into a flow that starts with the conformation of the wood, only to be liberated in the gestural energy of colour. He bases his research on the evolution of drawing, displaying considerable skill as a portraitist, but everything is centred upon a study of the body from which he gradually removes volume, leaving behind only a trace and turning the image into a metaphor of infinite reality.
